So we’re all in english classes… right? how about we rename the classes so that they better fit what you ACTUALLY do in “english” classes. Let’s call them coloring classes cuz all we do is annotate books. First of.. this is not an ap lit class. if i wanted to study books, even though my school…
So we’re all in english classes… right? how about we rename the classes so that they better fit what you ACTUALLY do in “english” classes. Let’s call them coloring classes cuz all we do is annotate books. First of.. this is not an ap lit class. if i wanted to study books, even though my school doesnt have it, i would go into ap lit. Second, since we’re in english, i have a good idea! Why dont we actually study the english language.
This all dawned on me when my spanish teacher was surprised i was doing better in IB Spanish HL 1 than standard level english. I told her that in spanish we actually learn the language and arent reading novels and coloring them. I’d rather have two periods of spanish than have an english class. This next point will apply to a lot of people.. How many of us are actually going to use annotation in the way that we do now in their desired careers? I know im not. Computer science.. When am i going need to highlight imagery or find themes for the major of computer science? oh thats right i’m not.. I bet half of the slang we use today can be found in the majority of the books we read. And the older generation wonders why.. Well maybe if we were actually taught actual english in our ENGLISH classes. Sorry but i think this schooling system is just to corrupt to function properly. and i know plenty of people will say, “oh its cuz of budget cuts.” in reality its just teachers teaching the wrong stuff. If you’re a teacher and you’re going to make us annotate a book, why dont you go to the principle and request the creation of a literature class, where you focus on.. guess what? literature. Cuz right now i feel that im wasting my time coloring a book i paid 15 bucks for and am never going to look at ever again. I have all IB classes on top of that too including IB Chemisty. So to all english teachers who teach coloring in a novel, thank you for making my life that much shittier than it already is.
Sincerely,
A really tired, pissed off, and energy drained IB Student.
